Samsung Flexible Mobile Screen

You’ve dreamed it. You’ve imagined it. The future of digital displays seem to involve lots of bending, folding and rolling as we’ve seen in one of the latest Samsung AMOLED commercials and now at CES 2012.

I can’t wait to roll my iPad up after reading the digital version of New York Times (or a comic book?) and watch full screen movies on and off my wristband-style watch/phone/whateveritis. #amigoingtoofar

Samsung acquired Liquavista in 2011, as VentureBeat reports, a small company that specialized in electrowetting techniques to create bright, low-power, flexible and transparent displays. Looks like Samsung moved several steps forward in R&D since it’s showcase of flexible displays in CES 2011.

So now the question being…once again…when will we see these displays in action?

Unfortunately not soon enough!

According to VentureBeat, the research and development with flexible and transparent displays are still in very early stages and we won’t be seeing these displays for consumer use anytime soon. That said, flexible mobile displays is simply the way of the future and Samsung’s proven that the technology exists. As Jolie O’Dell of VentureBeat put it, “we’d say you’ll be seeing flexi-screens long before jetpacks take off”.
